Alaka’i Namiko in Kaua’i

This month, Alaka’i Namiko is away in Kaua’i on her annual study trip where she joins the hālau, has hula intensives, and shadows Kumu Lei (“kumu” means “source” in Hawaiian) at her usual day-to-day lessons. During these trips, Kumu Lei imparts to us, her hula school extension, knowledge and wisdom about Hawaiian culture, the Hawaiian language, and hula protocol, via direct “download” to Alaka’i Namiko.

Ka Pā Hula Ka Lei Maile Hi’ilani is closely linked linked to Kaua’i and hula tradition because of our official connection to Hālau Ka Lei Kukui Hi’ilani and Kumu Lei, and through Kumu Lei we have a very good hula lineage.

Our hula sisters on Kaua’i embrace our Ka Pā (hula school); whenever Alaka’i is there, she (and whichever haumana/student accompanies her, as happens occasionally) and our hālau sisters have great fun together experiencing and sharing the joy of hula!
